Mary Susan Johnson, 88, of the Sarah Simpson Gossett Retirement Home and formerly of 4 North Garden Circle, passed peacefully from this life on December 16, 2008. Born in Anderson County, on July 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Graham Gillespie and Mary S. Gillespie. She was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors. She was a devoted wife and mother, whose greatest joy was her family. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray L. and Sharon Johnson of Simpsonville, Alvin H. and Beverly Johnson of Greenville; two daughters, Sylvia D. Long and Gloria J. Compton of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Dr. Lesle Long, David Long, Susan Fry, Russell Compton, Alison Roller, Ashley Matilla, Bonnie Johnson, Natalie Brandon; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin W. Johnson, two sons-in-law, and all her brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2008 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Brushy Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Ralph Carter officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
