MARY JOAN HENNEBERRY (NEE BARRETT) JULY 28, 1929 – FEBRUARY 21, 2013 It is with profound sadness that we share with you our loss of our dear Mother, Joan. Pre-deceased by her husband, Jim Henneberry, she will be deeply missed by her nine children, Chris (Sandra), Shaun (Anita), Jamie (Janice), Stephen (Melissa), Mary Jane, Bart (Kim), Beth (Mike), Rose (Julian) and Joe (Rachel). The loving Grandmother of Mark, Lee, Jason, Natalie, Joey, Jennifer, Natasha, D'Arcy, Nicholas, Jessica, Katie, Veronica, Justin, Emily, Meghan, Adam, Paul and Erin (18) and Great-Grandmother of Chase, Kellan, Allie, Daphne, Samantha, Samuel and Leah (7) her presence in their lives will be sorely missed. Dear sister to Gregory (Erina). Joan was predeceased by her sister Veronica (Walter) and brothers: Richard (late Marion) and Donald (Shirley). She is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. The daughter of Richard Lawrence Barrett of Trout Creek, Ontario and Mary Jane McCluskey of Beau Parc Co. Meath Ireland, Joan was born in Buffalo, New York. In 1940 her family returned to Canada to live in Toronto. She was educated at Loretta College and worked as a secretary prior to her marriage in 1952. Over the next 18 years her full attention was paid to the needs of her growing family. After a family move to Alymer, PQ and in addition to successfully coping with the heavy demands of her family, she joined the Public Service of Canada and worked for 20 years at Statistic Canada. Shortly after her retirement from the Public Service, she endured a traumatic and near death highway accident. Following over one year of recovery and rehabilitation, she returned to an active life enjoying her family, travel and her faith community. For the first time in their married life, Joan & Jim enjoyed the fruits of their hard work and devotion to each other. Unfortunately, in 1993 her beloved husband was taken just as they were beginning to make the most of their retirement. Joan dedicated her life and energy to family, friends and in her later years to the building of an educational facility for the Indian Mission of the Diocese of Jam Shedpur Jarkhand, India. Despite the impact of numerous and very serious medical issues, she continued to display extraordinary strength and vitality. She worked at the Indian Mission for three months, travelling with friends to Europe and visited her family from Halifax to Victoria and many places in-between. Her approach to life was filled with joy, enormous stamina and strong faith. Family and friends are invited to Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp Funeral Home, 47 Denise-Friend, Gatineau (Aylmer), on Sunday February 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday February 25 at 11 a.m. in St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 160 Principale, Gatineau (Aylmer). In memoriam, contributions can be made to the Indian School Mission, by contacting stephen@henneberry.ca or send donations to a local cancer foundation.
