Obituary of Mary-Jane Pierce


Mary Jane Pierce, 85, Seymour, passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Scott Memorial Hospital, Scottsburg. Mrs. Pierce was of the Nazarene faith and enjoyed fishing, her garden and pets, but especially loved her family and friends. Born Feb. 18, 1922, in Breathitt County, Ky., she was a daughter of Louis and Arizona Shouse Barrett, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Tom Roberts, who preceded her in death. On April 4, 1992, she married Lloyd "Gary" Pierce, who preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine (Jerry) Durham, North Vernon, and Joyce (Dale) Keown, Lexington; six grandchildren, Tina Durham, North Vernon, Jerry L. Durham, Columbus, Dan Klakamp, Freetown, Mary (Scott) Carpenter, Seymour, Robert Klakamp, Freetown, and Michael Dale Keown, Lexington; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica (Cody) Vogel, Columbus, Melinda (Brad) Case, Columbus, Jeramy Durham, North Vernon, Joshua Durham, Cleo, Mich., and Ashley Proffit, Jared Proffit and Courtney Carpenter, all of Seymour; a sister, Fannie Martin, Hamilton, Ohio; and her extended family, Gary Brown, Marian Morrison, and Tim Christian. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Grover and William Barrett; six sisters, Jaylee Barrett, Addie Fletcher, Nannie Belle Deaton, Gertrude Turner, Anna Mae Anderson and Nazie Simpkins,; four children, twins Christine and Paul Wayne Roberts, Darlene Roberts and Arthur Eugene Barrett; and two grandsons, John Herbert and Douglas Dwayne Klakamp. The Rev. Steve Greene will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. www.burkholderfuneralchapel.com
