MARY JANE MARTIN BARRE - Mary Jane Martin, 67, passed away after complications from a courageous battle with breast cancer, with her husband Arnold by her side on July 29, 2009. Mary was the youngest of four, born on Sept. 9, 1941, in Winooski, to Emile and Yvonne (Chouinard) Bussiere. She married Arnold Martin on Sept. 23, 1961. They made their home in the Barre area where they raised their family. Mary worked at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin for 28 years. She first worked as a cook and later worked with the activities group at Woodridge. Mary was known for her hard work and special gift of working with the elderly and disabled. Previously she was employed as a cook at the former Barre Hotel and was also employed at Reddy Plastics in Montpelier. Mary enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband. She was the happiest when she was spending time with family and friends, which included her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends on Lake Champlain. Mary will be affectingly remembered by her grandchildren as "Mare Bear." Her kind spirit could often be seen in her love for animals, which often included taking in and finding homes for stray animals. Mary leaves behind many, many friends and her husband Arnold Martin of Barre; two children, her son Christopher Martin and his wife Bonnie (LaFlower) of Moriah, N.Y., her daughter Robin (Martin) Parry and her husband Jason of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Rhiannen (Masi) Wood and her husband Matthew of South Burlington, Autumn Parry of St. Albans and Christian Parry of St. Albans; and two greatgrandchildren, Kolbi MasiMusgrave and Bailey Wood. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Emile and Yvonne Bussiere; her brother Emile Bussiere of Holyoke, Mass.; her sister Lorraine Bussiere of Winooski; and her brother Roland "Cutchie Bussiere of Berlin. A graveside service will be held at the Durant Cemetery in Lower Cabot on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the many nurses, doctors and caregivers at the Central Vermont Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion Mary received while she was there.
