July 28, 2003 Mary J. (Carson) Martin, 87, passed into her eternal rest in her sleep on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Stephen Caldwell Memorial Nursing Home in Ipswich, MA. Most recently, Mrs. Martin had resided in Beverly, MA and prior to that in Beverly Hills, Fl. Mrs. Martin was born in Philadelphia, PA and had been a long-time resident of Syracuse, NY prior to moving to Florida. Mrs. Martin had been married for 62 years to Harry G. Martin, Jr., retired general counsel of Carrier Corporation, until his death in 1996. She dedicated herself to bringing up her family. She was well known for her cooking and sewing skills. She was an avid golfer and league bowler. She was one of six children, three brothers (William, Harry and Walter, all deceased) and three sisters. As a teenager, she and her two sisters, with their father, William A. Carson, starred in a weekly musical program in the early days of radio in Philadelphia, PA. Her love of music and her interest in radio and entertainment have passed on through several of her grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Leona Carr and Catherine Hersh, both of Lancaster, PA, and by her children, Sandra Martin of Syracuse, NY, Constance Carter of Beverly Hills, FL, Donna Pohotsky of Beverly, MA, and David R. Martin of Sunrise, FL. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held privately at the request of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly.
