Mary-Isabel Mackenzie, born in 1908, spouse of Eddie Rodegard, daughter of Alexander and Isabel, mother of Dorothy, Judy, Donna, Linda and Beverly, died on January 24, 2001.
MARY ISABEL RODEGARD Mary Isabel Rodegard, a gentle, selfless, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001. Mary was born in Shenston Township, Barwick, Ont. on Aug. 16, 1908, the eldest of three children, to Isabel and Alexander MacKenzie. She married Eddie Rodegard in 1938, and together they made Sioux Narrows, Ont. their home. It was here they raised their family of five daughters, Dorothy, Judy, Donna, Linda, and Beverly. It also was here that Mary earned a reputation as the best bread maker in this part of the country. Many people, who soon became dear friends, first met her at “Mary’s Home Bakery” when they came to purchase her delicious bread, buns, and butter tarts. Sioux Narrows was her home for 59 years. For the last four years, she resided at Pinecrest Home for the Aged in Kenora, Ont., but returned home whenever she was able. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Eddie in 1999; her daughter, Donna; and brothers, John and Bill MacKenzie. She will be sadly missed by her daughters; granddaughters; extended family, the Brian Beacham family, Lillian Rodegard, Roland Asselin family, and the Albert Rodegard family; and many friends and neighbours. Mary slipped away on the morning of Jan. 24, quietly and peacefully, and we are sure she was guided by her husband and her daughter to her eternal rest.
