HUGHES Mary (nee Griffin), of Paramus, NJ passed away peacefully on April 10, 2014 at the age of 95. Born Mary Griffin on Sept. 15, 1918 to Catherine (Martin) Griffin and Thomas Griffin of New York City, NY. Mary worked as a telephone operator at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1977 to 1999. During her time as a telephone operator she also took evening and weekend classes and graduated on the Dean's List with a degree in Marketing. Mary traveled the world and enjoyed people . She loved the arts and had taken up painting late in life. Mary was an inspiration to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Robert Hughes (1923-1953) and Joseph Hughes (1915-1977 no relation to Robert Hughes). She is survived by her children Robert Hughes and wife Mari and Loretta (Hughes) Louviere and husband Tony. Cherished grandmother of Julian Pompilio and partner Kristina Strang; Jesse Pompilio and partner Britt Kline; Nora (Devitt) Moritz and husband Chad; Damien Devitt; Erika (Hughes) Chagnon and husband Matt and Melissa Hughes. Loving great grandmother of Griffen Pompilio, Asha Pompilio, Kira Chagnon and Finn Chagnon. Mary is predeceased by her daughter Kathleen (Hughes) Devitt, grandson Shannon Hughes and step-son Joseph Hughes. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 5 - 8 PM at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ.
