Mary E. Hughes February 14, 1925-May 21, 2014 Murrells Inlet, SC Mary E. Hughes of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Tidelands Community Hospice in Georgetown, SC. She was 89. Mrs. Hughes was the widow of Major Wallie Alton Hughes. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Glenda Bateman; son-in-law, Ashton Bateman; grandsons Marc and Paul Bateman; great grandsons Michael Little and Scott Bateman; one great granddaughter, Courtney Bateman, and one great, great granddaughter, Mia Little. She is also survived by Michael Strickland and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach, SC. A Remembrance Gathering was held for family members at the home on Thursday evening, May 22, 2014.
