Mary Henderson, 83, of Aberdeen, N.J., died peacefully in her home on April 9, 2014. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 11, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 376 Maple Pl., Keyport, N.J., followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, 456 Highway 35, Middletown, N.J. To share stories, photos or to post a tribute, please visit www.waittfh.com. Born on May 18, 1930, in Union City, N.J., Mary was the only child of adoring parents, Joseph and Catherine Jeker. She was raised in Union City, where she was educated in her home parish of St. Michael's. After graduating from high school, Mary went to work at the Oakite Corporation in Manhattan as a secretary. At Oakite, Mary met Jesse Henderson, her beloved husband of 53 years. Mary and Jesse were married in St. Michael's church and then moved to Rutherford, N.J., where they began raising the first three of their five children in a small apartment there. In November 1963, Jesse moved Mary into her dream home in Aberdeen, the house they remained in until Jesse's passing in 2010 and Mary's recent passing. Once settled into their home in Aberdeen, Mary and Jesse added two more children to their family. During her years as a stay-at-home mom, Mary worked for the Asbury Park Press delivering newspapers to local paper carriers (often with one or more of her youngest children perched on top of banded stacks of newspapers in the back seat of her car). Once all five of her kids were safely ensconced in elementary school, Mary went back to work full-time at Bell Labs in Holmdel, N.J., where she remained until her retirement in 1995 (by which point it was AT&T and located in Middletown). In the course of her life, Mary was a beacon of love, faith, kindness, and joy for all who knew her, and so instead of mourning her passing, we celebrate it, for this passing reunites her with her beloved Jesse and calls her home to God. Honoring and celebrating her life are her children, Robert Henderson and his wife, Karen; Susan Schneider and her husband, George; Carolyn Meier and her husband, Gregory; William Henderson and his wife, Pamela, and John Henderson and his wife, Alison, as well as her nine devoted grandchildren, Kaitlin, Corey, Mackenzie, AnnaMaria, Finnegan, Devin, Jack, Caton, and Jesse.
