Mary Heath Lewis Powell, died at home Tuesday, April 16. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 18, 2002, at First Moravian Church. The Rev. David Fischler will officiate. Born May 24, 1914, in Elizabeth City, N.C., to Robert E. Lewis and Lula Heath Lewis. Mary Heath was a member of First Moravian Church. She graduated from UNCG with a degree in Biology and Physical Education. She earned a degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina, and later earned a Master's Degree from UNCG. She taught school for nearly 30 years. Surviving her are her husband of 58 years, Lawrence M. Powell, of the home; children, Robert "Skeeter" Powell and wife Cathie Skinner Powell, of Greenville, and Lari Powell Hatley and husband Jeffrey J. Hatley, of Greensboro; and grandchildren, Dr. Rob Powell and his wife Dr. Suzie Powell, of Greenville, Dr. Lars Powell of Georgia, and Heath and Al Wilder of Montana.
