HUGHES, Mary Eileen Julia (nee McManus) November 26, 1933 - July 10, 2011 Mary passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a short illness at Lions Gate Hospital. She leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years, Ron, her 3 children; Greg (Lauren), Cheryl Hooge (Terry), and Paul (Kim), granddaughters; Jennifer and Erin Hughes, Julia and Kristina McMullin, Megan and Madison Hooge, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary grew up in Montreal, the youngest of 7 children. She is predeceased by brothers Edmond and Mervin, sister Kathleen Meloche (Gilles), sister-in-law and lifelong friend Lois McManus and son-in-law Ross McMullin, She will be missed by her brother Bernard (Patsy) and sisters; Joan Baillergeon (Fern), and Audley Sullivan (Bert d.), of Montreal, Quebec. Mary became a Registered Nurse after graduating from high school and began her career at St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal. After her marriage to Ron in 1958, the couple moved to Victoria where she continued working at St. Joseph's Hospital. Ron's career moved the family several times to various cities across Canada, as well as 4 years in Hong Kong. The couple have been retired and living in West Vancouver since 1992. Mary was known for her wit, charm, intelligence, compassion and humour. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mass of Christian Burial to take place at St. Anthony's church in West Vancouver on Friday July 15th, at 2pm.
