A service to celebrate the life of Mary Hodge Godwin will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at First Baptist Church, Cheraw. The Rev. Richard L. Young will be the officiating minister. The family will receive friends, 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw.Mrs. Godwin, who went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, was born on Dec. 22, 1928, in Sumter, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Jay Gould and Jimmie Tudor Hodge. She was a graduate of Coker College, majoring in voice and piano. Mrs. Godwin taught piano, and was a contralto soloist for many years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, children's choirs, and sang in the choir. Her joy in life was being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Mrs. Godwin will be most remembered for the Christian witness and love that she displayed in her everyday life, which she passed on to her children and many friends. "Mimi"(as known to her grandchildren) will be greatly missed. Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Winston Y. Godwin, Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn (Rev. Garland) Hart of Summerton, S.C.; and five sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Winston Y. (Kimberly) Godwin, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Rev. Paul L. (Laura Anne) Godwin and Michael Luke (Mary Ann) Godwin, all of Cheraw, S.C., and Dr. David Alan (Jane) Godwin and Roger Thomas (Janet) Godwin of Greer, S.C.; 24 grandchildren, Ashley, Anna, Courtney, Kimberly, Amy, Mary-Chase, Paul, Anne Elizabeth, Katherine, Kristin, Kirk, Jeannie, Ben, David, Mary Elizabeth, Anna Grace, Hannah, Alan, Jennifer, Luke, Thomas, Andrew, Kathryn and Emily; and great-grandchild, Camryn. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Betty Eubanks of Augusta, Ga. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Loretta Briggs; and a brother, Dr. Jay Earl Hodge.The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at Chesterfield Convalescent Center, and Edna Wallace and Jeanne Johnson for their help and kindness during Mrs. Godwin's illness.Memorials, in lieu of flowers to: Mary Godwin, Christian Scholarship Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O.
