She was born in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Frances Barry Baker and Charles Meehan. She grew up in Detroit and graduated from the Urseline Catholic School in Chatham, Ontario. She married Ben Humphrey in 1942, after moving to South Florida, where they settled and raised six children.After they both retired, they moved to the Tallahassee area, living in Sopchoppy and Woodville for the past 38 years. Even though she was retired, she worked at the then new Tallahassee Community Hospital as telephone operator for 10 years, at Leon County Library, volunteered at the local precincts on election days, and did ministry work at the Wakulla Correctional Institution.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her oldest son , Ben Jr., her daughter-in-law, Valerie and her son-in-law, Renato Ricciardelli.She is survived by her daughters Matilda Ann Sanders (Macky)and Mary Frances Ricciardelli, her sons, Michael Ellis, Patrick David and John Terence, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends.She was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in North Miami, Sacred Heart in Lanark, St. Elizabeth's in Medart and most recently at St. Stephen's the Protomartyr Catholic Church in Woodville.She was a Eucharistic Minister and a lector at the church, and a huge supporter of the Women's Guild. She received the Jubilee Honorary Medal of Service from the Catholic Church presented to her by Bishop Ricard in 2002 at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Sept.27th at 10 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Woodville.Rite of Committal and Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Cemetery in Medart. Reception will follow at St. Elizabeth's Social Hall. Mary Frances was a kind, caring and loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She will forever be in our hearts and thoughts. The family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at TMH and Big Bend Hospice.
