Mary Flanagan, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Morristown, N.J., on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Rood Cemetery, Morris Township. Hours of visitation at the Doyle Funeral Home, 106 Maple Ave., Morristown, N.J., are on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Mary was born in Aughabas, County Leitrim, Ireland, and moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in the 1960s. She worked on Wall Street at Chase Manhattan Bank. She married Patrick in 1964 and lived in Denville, N.J., before settling in Morristown in 1967. She worked for the Morris School District for several years and retired in 2006. Mary was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Morristown. She found great comfort in the Catholic Church and never missed a Sunday Mass until becoming too ill to attend. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She raised five children with much love and care. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Patrick; her children, Kevin Flanagan and his wife, Annie, of Morristown, N.J.; Steven Flanagan of Morristown, N.J.; Stacey Lynch and her husband, Rich, of Morristown, N.J.; Mark Flanagan and his wife, Lisa, of Randolph, N.J., and Denise Miller and her husband, Dominick, of Denville, N.J., as well as her eight grandchildren, Kathryn, Kelly, Laura, Tara, Patrick, Shea, Patrick and Maggie. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Diffley of Smithtown, N.Y.; Kathleen Connelly and her husband, Patrick, of Manchester, N.J.; Eileen Horan of Madison, Conn., and Josephine Gallagher of Newburgh, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Thomas Diffley of Queens, N.Y., and Anthony Gallagher of Sunnyside, Queens, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 28 Kennedy Blvd., East Brunswick, N.J. 08816, in Mary's memory for her granddaughter, Kathryn, who manages diabetes every day.
