EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Evelyn (Baggett) Brown, wife of Charles E. Brown entered into rest on August 1, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2003, at 1 p.m., in the Belair Road chapel of Platts Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Doss officiating, burial to follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Brown was born in Rome, Ga., March 7, 1934. At an early age her family moved to Chattanooga, Tenn. She graduated thru the public school system. She was married September 27, 1952 to her husband of 51 years. Her husband served during the Korean War era and she joined him as he served his term. Mary was an accomplished Color Portrait Artist for several years, she served her community as PTA officer, Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and a Sunday School Teacher. In 1985 Mary and Charles moved to Augusta and in 1991 Mary became owner of Industrial Supply SE., the parent company of Red Wing Shoe of Augusta, Augusta Work Shoe, Aiken Work Shoe, Martinez Work Shoe and Greenwood Work Shoe in Greenwood, S.C. Her company is the sponsor of the 'Josh' Program of Children Miracle Network at the Medical College of Georgia. Mary suffered a series of strokes in 1997 and had to retire from from her business. She was a member of Warren Baptist Church where she served two terms as a Sunday School Teacher of the Walking Well Children. Mary was a devoted wife and mother of her three children. She loved her church and loved children. Survivors include her devoted husband of 51 years, Charles E. Brown; three children, Charles M. Brown, Ms. Darlene McLaughlin and Mrs. Denise Norton; four grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Brown, Lindsey and Mack Norton; a daughter-in-law, Delaine Brown and son-in-law, Stan Norton, all of this area; sisters, Semmie Ford and Edith Johnston of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Ruby Ayers of Rome, Ga., and Dorothy Myer, devoted family friend. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bailey, Stacey Brown, Alex Brown, Michael Little, Mike Little, Darren Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be George Rozelle and Dick Carson. In celebration of her life and honor of her memory, donations can be made to Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907 or to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904 or to a church of your choice.
