Obituary of Mary-Ellen Carter


Mrs. Mary Ellen Johnson Carter, age 94, of Winterville, Ga. died December 16, 2013. Mrs. Carter was a native of Greensboro, N.C. but had lived in Winterville for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Patton Carter. Mrs. Carter was formerly employed as a payroll clerk for Johnson & Johnson, as a secretary/receptionist for Dr. Sam Talmadge and more recently as an administrative assistant at the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church in Oconee County.Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, Russell (Carolyn) Carter of Madison, Ga., Richard (Priscilla) Carter of Winterville, grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Carter, Kelli (Andy) Allred, Christopher Carter, Matthew Carter, Hannah Carter, great grandchildren, Maricarter Allred, Addison Allred, Judson Carter, Ellen Carter, Caregivers, Catherine Dubose and Amy McFall.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday December 20, 2013 at the Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Richard McFall officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Log Cabin behind the church on Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.Flowers are optional. Donations may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 2040 Belmont Rd., Athens, Ga. 30605.Bridges Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of the arrangements.
