TIFTON, Ga. - Mary Elizabeth Powell Newman Jordan entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at her home in Tifton. Elizabeth was born December 25, 1919 in Columbia County to the late Charley Pinkney and Emmie Lucius Walton Powell. Survivors include a brother, Theron L Powell of Lufkin, Texas; Sisters and brothers-in-law Gwen (Bob) Litten of Franklin, NC; Peggy (James) Silletto of Port St Lucie, FL, and Dr. Joyce (Dr. Earl Sr) Parker of Tifton, GA; Sisters-in-Law Helen (Charles Jr) Powell of Laurens, SC; Irene (Arnold) Powell of Honea Path, SC; and Beverly (Gordon) Powell of Des Moines, Iowa; and numerous extended family and friends. A Celebration of her life will be held at 12 :00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Grove First Baptist Church, Grovetown, with the Rev. Steven Adams and nephew Richard Powell officiating and a memorial will be presented by the Order of the Eastern Star, the Alice Warren Chapter. Interment will follow in the Newmantown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Grove First Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Tifton. A visitation will be at the church from 11:00 AM until time of service.
