Obituary of Mary-Elizabeth Oliver

BETH, Oliver Dec. 23, 1925 -- Jan. 29, 2014We are sad to announce that our beloved Beth passed away Tuesday January 29, 2014 at VGH, following a sudden illness. Just weeks earlier she was able to Celebrate her 88th birthday with friends at their home. She has now joined her family who were all predeceased. Her loving parents Gwen and Sydney Oliver, her brother Michael, and Sister in Law Ruth Parkinson. We will all miss Beth's warm, sweet & loving nature, especially her laughter and giggles. Although Beth lived with a number of disabilities, she never complained. At a young age Beth was introduced to stamping as a tool to help overcome some of her challenges. Beth loved stamp collecting and doing puzzles, her knowledge and ability for both were outstanding. She was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Vict. Stamp Club. She will be greatly missed by her pseudo family, JoAnn Hebden, whom she lived with for 33 years, and Joann's daughters, Charlene, Debbie & Jackie and their families. As well as long time family friends Joyce Nordall (Victoria) and Morag & Doug Wamsley (Oliver BC). It was Beth's Wishes to be cremated and not to have a funeral. Beth's ashes will be joined with those of Ruth Parkinson. Beth and Ruth had a very special friendship. Ruth was engaged to Beth's brother Michael, he was a pilot in the 2nd world War, his plane was tragically shot down on the last day of the war. Ruth then took Beth in and they lived together for almost 50 years, until Ruth's passing. There ashes will be spread over a favourite spot along the Gorge Waterway. We would like to thank the ERP & intern at VGH on the afternoon of Jan. 24th, their kindness and compassion towards Beth and myself, it was so very much appreciated. And for the staff on 4 South B for making her last 4 days as comfortable as possible. A memorial tea will be held at a later date, condolences and request to attend the tea may be sent to joann44@shaw.ca
