Obituary of Mary-Elizabeth-Applewhite Jordan


Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Applewhite Jordan 83 will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday March 10 2005 in the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Jordan died Sunday March 6 2005 at her residence. She was born in Jackson daughter of the late James L. and Bettie Ursery Hale. She attended Jackson High School and worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company. She then moved to Memphis where she worked as a PBX receptionist for several companies until she retired in 1984 to a small fishing community on Sardis Lake in Mississippi. She returned to Jackson in 1996 to be near family and long-time friends. She was known to her friends and family as "Boots". Mrs. Jordan was a member of Harmon Town Baptist Church in Sardis MS. She was preceded in death by her first husband Edward A. Applewhite and later by her second husband William Ashley Jordan. Mary is survived by two daughters Ms. Sherry L. Applewhite of Memphis TN and Nancy Applewhite Walker of Jackson; two granddaughters Mrs. Cindy Walker Roberts of Fenton DE and Mrs. Edie Walker White of Willard MO. She enjoyed her four great-grandchildren Faith Shane and Nathan White and Wesley Roberts. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
