Obituary of Mary-Eileen Peters


PETERS Mary Eileen "Bubba" Peters, 84, of Essex wife of the late William C. Peters, died Sunday at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her daughters, Kathleen Thompson of West Hartford, Susan Peters of Hartford and Kimberly Peters of Waterbury. Born Mary Eileen Neary in Scranton, PA she is the daughter of James and Louise Neary and was predeceased by her only sister Alice. Bubba as many came to know her, was always an independent and strong willed woman following her high school graduation Peters entered the work force as a "Rosie the Riveter" by operating a crane at Bullard's in Bridgeport. She then became one of the first women to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Women's Reserve serving in Washington D.C. from 1943-1945. In addition to her daughters she is survived by her grandchildren; Gregory and his wife Rachel Thompson of Scarborough ME, Erica Thompson of West Hartford, Todd Gutner and his wife Rachel of South Portland ME, and Chad Gutner and his friend Kelly Dunn of Somerville, MA. plus two great grandchildren, Connor and Ben Thompson. At Bub's request there will be no calling hours, a graveside ceremony with military honors will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 279 New Britain Rd. Kensington CT 06037. Molloy Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
