Mary E. Peters ROCHESTER - Mary E. Peters, 85, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, after a period of failing health. Mary was born in Brookline, Mass., on May 28, 1927, the daughter of Sidney and Elizabeth (Curtain) Welch and had been living in Rochester since 1992, moving from Shelton, Conn. Mary was the first woman from Maine to be sworn into the Regular Navy in Boston in 1948 and assigned as a Flight Orderly on the R-6OConstitution, the largest aircraft of the day. Mary was a U.S. Navy veteran. She married Kenneth E. Peters on Sept. 26, 1950, and celebrated 62 plus years of marriage. A loving wife and mother of seven, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated her life to her family, Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Annemarie Cusano, and was recently widowed by Kenneth E. Peters, who died on Jan. 21, 2013. Surviving members of the family include: four sons, Mark Peters of Pittsburgh, Pa., Timothy Peters of Nottingham, Jon Christopher Peters of Oxford, Conn., and Kevin Peters of Livermore, Calif., two daughters, Jeannine Peters of Shelton, Conn. and Sydney Bingman of Longwood, Fla. She leaves 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren as well as one brother, Denis Welch of Porter, Maine and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester, on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at St. Mary's Church, 71 Lowell Street, Rochester, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
