Mary E. Murray Lee, 89, of Cooperville, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Cedar Plantation Assisted Living Facility.The Newington native was the daughter of the late Maxie Austin and Lawrence William Murray. She wed her husband, the late Frank L. Lee, on September 14, 1940, and they resided on the family farm in the Ogeechee community, where they raised two children. In 1961, they relocated to Cooperville. Mary was a very active and social person who didn't meet a stranger. She retired from Walmart with over 20 years of service. She was a member of the Wade's Baptist Church and served in various capacities within the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Lawrence William Lee; a sister, Elma Oliver; and a brother, Herman R. Murray.She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Thigpen; four grandchildren, Larry (Janet) Lee, William Alan (Lisa) Thigpen, Don Lamar (Jennifer) Thigpen II and Donna (Jason) Thigpen Williams; two sisters, Edell Bassett and Myrtle Rooker; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel.The funeral service will be Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Wade's Baptist Church with the Rev. Edgar Lee and the Rev. Dan Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in the Wades Baptist Church Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Benji Anderson, Garrett Anderson, Garrett Thigpen, Michael Thigpen and David Smith.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wade's Baptist Church Fund, P.O.
