Mary Duke Hughes MONTICELLO - Mary Duke Hughes, 54, who retired after 28 years as a Jefferson County elementary school teacher, died Monday, May 3, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ray S. Hughes. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with burial at Roseland Cemetery.Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT today at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 307, Monticello, FL 32345, Aucilla Christian Academy, 7803 Aucilla Road, Monticello, FL 32344, or Big Bend Hospice Jefferson County, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel (997-5612) is handling arrangements. Born in Long Branch, N.J., she was a previous resident of Cape May, N.J., and West Long Branch, N.J. She had lived in Monticello for 31 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monticello, where she was a member of the choir, the Frances Fellowship and numerous Bible study classes.She was also a member of the Quilters Club in Monticello. Other survivors include two sons, Ray S. Hughes Jr. of Wilmore, Ky., and Glen A. Hughes of Monticello; a daughter, Heather Hughes Boyd of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Abigail Boyd, Thomas Hughes and Mary Frances Hughes; her parents, James and Anna Mae Duke of Sarasota; two brothers, James "Jimmy" Duke of Ocean Pines, Md., and Arthur Duke of Syracuse, N.Y.; and a sister, Ruth Pitts of Grand Rapids, Mich.
