Obituary of Mary Crawford

Mary Crawford On Saturday, August 25th, 2007, Mary Crawford, n. Dempster, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, at her home in Creston, BC. Mary was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, on December 17th, 1918, the fifth of eight children of William and Annie Dempster. Mary grew up in Unity where she attended school. She was a good student and athlete, enjoying reading, skating and playing hockey. Mary moved to Saskatoon to attend the Saskatoon Business College, where she met her future husband, Clarence Crawford. Mary worked for the Royal Bank, first in Macklin, then transferring to Saskatoon. Mary and Clarence were married in 1942 and had one daughter, Diana. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed sports, music and dancing. She and Clarence spent countless evenings square dancing and round dancing with friends and as members of the "Quadrilleers ". Mary enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines and was an accomplished 5-pin bowler and lawn bowler. Mary's kind nature and ready wit will be sadly missed by her friends in Saskatoon, especially at the Nutana Lawn Bowling Club, and the many friends she made since moving to Creston in 2005. Most of all, she will be missed by her family: daughter, Diana and her partner, Ken Karlander; grandsons, Scott Mackenzie and Duncan Mackenzie, Duncan's wife, Laura and great grandchildren, Connor and Jada; brothers, Jack (Betty) and Bob (Catherine); sister, Jean McTavish (Danny); and her many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; her mother and father; brothers, Alex and Bill; and sisters, Dorothy and Margaret. A Celebration of Mary's Life was held in Creston on August 31st, 2007. The family thanks Pastor Harry Haberstock for officiating, Monte Anderson, former director of the Saskatoon Sweet Adelines, for providing the music Mary loved, and all the friends of Mary and her family who participated in the service and offered kindness and sympathy. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the TAPS program, Box 187, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0.
