Obituary of Mary Clay


CLAY, Mary Elizabeth Davis "Betty", passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina. She was 87 years old. Betty was born Feb. 20, 1916 in Meadville, Pa., the daughter of Helen and Albert J. Davis. She and her husband, Ralph resided at Grace Ridge retirement community in Morganton, having moved there recently, after living 21 years in Homosassa, Fla. Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She was also an avid golfer and bridge player. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, Florida. She will be sorely missed, by family and many friends. Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph. They have been married for over 62 years. She is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Michael Friend of Hickory, N.C. and Janie and Robert Hughes of Brentwood, Tenn. She has five grand- children, Christopher Friend and wife, Suzanne of Smith Town, N.Y., Jane and Katie Friend of Hickory, N.C., Robert S. Hughes III and wife, T anya of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada and Elizabeth (Betsy) Sloan and husband, Jason of Brentwood, Tenn. She has one great-grand- child, Jake Friend of Smith Town, N.Y. Memorial Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2003 at Grace Ridge, 500 Lenoir Road, Morganton, N.C. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Friendship Fund of Grace Ridge, 500 Lenoir Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
