Santos, Mary Catherine WhitmoreDec. 31, 1924 - Oct. 11, 2007Mary Catherine Whitmore Santos, 82, Bradenton, died Oct. 11, 2007, in Freedom Village after a long illness.Services will be private at a later date. National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.Mary was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, 1924. After graduating from Immaculate Heart High School in L.A. she trained as a registered nurse at St. Mary's College of Nursing in San Francisco. She went on to get her master's degree in public health at UCLA. After a few months as an R.N. with the Veterans Administration in California, she went to Saudi Arabia in 1950 to work for the Arabian American Oil Company. She met a young engineer with Aramco and married in Beirut, Lebanon in 1951. She lived in Saudi Arabia for twenty-seven years and traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Orient and the Pacific. She was an avid reader and bridge player. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was always a most gracious, generous and kind person. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, John; daughter, Heather Stewart (James) of Bradenton; son, Peter Santos (Noiva) of Katy, Texas; and six grandchildren.Memorials may be made to TideWell Hospice at 3355 26th St. W., Bradenton, FL 34205.
