->Groton - "Candy," to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2010, at her SARAH-Tuxis group home in Old Saybrook, surrounded by her family.Candy was born on June 3, 1948.She is survived by her father, William Gunther, formerly of Mystic; six sisters and a brother, Christine and Robin Gunther of Groton, Kate Holthausen and her husband, John, and Debbie Bishop and her husband, Keith, of Guilford, Maryanne Hill and her husband, Dan, of Otisfield, Maine, William Gunther III and his wife, Clare, of North Chelmsford, Mass., and Susan Hotkowski and her husband, Peter, of Chester.Candy was a wonderful aunt to her 16 nieces and nephews and ten grand nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her mother, Marie "Andy" Gunther.Candy was a longtime employee of Seabird Enterprises in Groton as a baker and cook at Candy's Place in Mystic and Candy's Cozy Kitchen in New London.Candy was often seen going to breakfast at BeeBee Dairy in Mystic on weekends.A private funeral mass and burial will be held. A mass celebrating her extraordinary life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton. A reception will follow. Everyone should wear something red, Candy's favorite color.
