Mary C. Behnken (nee Hughes), 91, of Tinton Falls, N.J., formerly of Roselle, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home, 146 E. 2nd Ave., Roselle, on Saturday, March 19, at 9 a.m., thence to the Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter, Roselle, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Iselin, N.J. Mrs. Behnken was born in Houston, Texas, and resided in Roselle for 50 years before moving to Tinton Falls nine years ago. She was a member of the Rosary Society of the Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter. Mary and her husband, John, were instrumental in starting the Pre-Cana program at the church. They were also hosts to foreign exchange students from Italy and Germany. Mary was a member of the Mothers Club of St. Joseph the Carpenter School and a Girl Scout leader in Roselle. She graduated from College of St. Elizabeth with a B.A. in chemistry and earned a master's in education from Kean University. Mrs. Behnken was employed as a librarian and then a math teacher at Girls Catholic High School in Roselle. Her last position before retirement in 1981 was vice principal. Mrs. Behnken was the beloved wife of the late Mr. John W. Behnken and the devoted mother of Mr. Charles Behnken and his wife, Anne Marie, of Hampton, N.J., and Mrs. Liz Quattrocchi and her husband, Tom, of Spotswood, N.J. She was the cherished grandmother of Joseph and Kristin Anne Behnken. She was predeceased by her sister, Clare Hughes.
