Obituary of Mary-Bruce McCormack


MCCORMACK Mary Bruce McCormack, 79, died Friday, February 13, 2004, after a long illness. Mrs. McCormack was a Bank Street Scholar, a graduate of the University of North Florida and taught kindergarten in Duval County for 20 years at Oceanway and Morse Avenue Elementary schools. A longtime resident of Fruit Cove, and an avid reader, Mrs. McCormack helped found the Bartram Trail Library. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour and the Fit & Over 50 Group of the Mandarin YMCA. A native of Sydney, Australia, she was raised in Oxford, England, where she graduated from the Dragons School. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, James R. McCormack; a daughter, Louise Stoney of Averill Park, N.Y.; a son, James B. Stoney (Pamela) of Whitestone, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Hannah Faith Soloway; a brother, Neil F. Bruce of Oxford, England; and a stepdaughter, Diana M. McCormack of Jacksonville. Mrs. McCormack was predeceased by a daughter, Kate Cashel Stoney, in 1994. A memorial service will be at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 17 at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 12236 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
