OWENS, MARY MENANDS - Mary Bronwen (Bonnie) Owens, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Troy, NY, Bronwen was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Dorothy Ann Pryor Owens. She was raised in Watervliet where she resided for many years and moved to Menands in 1987. Bronwen graduated from Watervliet High School in 1965 and furthered her studies at Hudson Valley Community College. She was employed by the State of New York for 25 years and retired in 2002 from the Office of the State Comptroller in Albany. Bronwen had a special place in her heart for dogs and, throughout her life, always shared her home with several. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors, trees, squirrels and birds of all kinds. She was a fan of the NY Mets and also enjoyed local sporting events, accompanying her family to watch Siena Saints Basketball and Valley Cats Baseball. She loved listening to music, especially "the Blues", and played the piano. Bronwen enjoyed going out to dinner, desserts, the Schuyler Bakery and collecting antique bottles. Visiting Caroga Lake, when she was younger, was a cherished memory of hers. She is dearly loved by her family and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Bronwen is survived by her loving sisters and brothers; Dianne Kanaly and her husband Michael, Gary F. Owens, Susan Polaski and her husband Nick, Leslie Hargraves and her husband Gary and Jonathan Owens and his wife Margaret; her dear aunt, Marjorie Assini and her uncle Charles Assini; as well as eight cherished nieces and nephews and six grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 7PM in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Friends are invited and may also visit with the family from 6 until 7 pm, prior to the service. A private interment will take place in the family plot in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. Her love for Dogs has prompted the family to suggest, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC, 20090-6929 in memory of Mary Bronwen Owens. Please visit www.parkerbrosmemorial.com for directions and condolence book.
