BERG , Mary Alice Mary Alice Berg of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Eldor R. Berg, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Mary was born in Banff, AB, daughter to Howard and Mary Deegan, and older sister to "Timberline Jim" Deegan, Park Warden, all deceased. She was a granddaughter of a founding family of Banff, that of Ben and Elizabeth Woodworth whom she called Gran. Mary was very proud of her Irish and Canadian heritage and was for many years an active member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers and Their Descendants Association. Mary was a mountain girl who enjoyed the great outdoors, skiing Mt. Norquay and skating on the Bow in Canada's greatest treasure. She loved the winters as much as the summers and she knew all the flora and fauna. Mary was schooled in Banff and learned art and music in one of western Canada's best centres of the Arts. She had a wonderful voice and sang in choirs and at weddings. She had manners, beauty and grace in all things she did. After graduating from Normal School in 1943 she taught every grade in one room schools at Mayerthorpe, Millicent, and Rosemary. In her later years she enjoyed reunions with the other graduates of Normal School and old Banff High School friends. She married Eldor in 1947. She leaves behind her two sons, Bjorn (Debbie) and David (Andre) and two fine grandchildren, Amanda and Jordan, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families plus many friends. She is sadly missed by all. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mary's life, will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Martin Bros. Riverview Chapel, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to advance research into Parkinson's, 1254 - 3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0J9, Alzheimer Society, No. 402, 740 - 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0N9 or to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, No. 207, 542 - 7 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 2H1, are kindly encouraged.
