Lawton, Mary Ann SOUTH HERO, Vt. Mary Ann (Gabriel) Lawton, 88, of South Hero, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. in the company of her family. Mary was born November 27, 1919 in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late Otto Edward and Margaret E. Tiernan Gabriel. She was a graduate of Holy Names Academy in Albany. She went on to graduate from Albany Business College. In 1941, she married Harland F. Lawton of South Hero. During World War II, Mary worked for the Hercules Powder Company. After her husband returned from the Army, Mary worked with her husband, drafting. She loved to play cards, do crosswords, and visit with friends and family. Mary is survived by her son, Peter J. Lawton of Alburgh, Vt. and is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Harland F. Lawton. There will be no services. Donations may be made to the Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
