Mary Ann Hammett Lyons, 69, a lifelong resident of Anderson, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home, after a long illness. Mrs. Lyons was the wife of John J. Lyons Jr. of Anderson. She was preceded in death by her father, James D. Hammett, her mother, Eulalie Campbell Hammett; and her sister, Lidge Andreas. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, an Episcopalian, and a local artist. Mrs. Lyons attended Anderson Girls High and St. Agnes Episcopal School in Alexandria, Va. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, and six children, Gay Lyons Haley and husband, Bill, of Atlanta, Ga., Lee Lyons of Bluffton, James H. Lyons and wife, Miriam, of Anderson, John Joseph Lyons III and wife Barbara, of Anderson, Martin Andrew Lyons and wife, Anne, of Decatur, Ill., and Andrea Cannell and husband, D.J. of Bluffton. She is survived by her eight grandchildren, Heidi Schmidt, Hayden Fulp, John Haley, Mary Anna Lyons, Jaime Lyons, Hayley Lyons, Ann Haley and Andrew Cannell. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Jonny K. Lyons of Anderson; stepmother, Helen Hunt Hammett; stepsister and brother, Helen Yates and Julian Hunt all of Greenville. Visitation will be today, Jan. 14, 2001, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home, and a service will be held Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, followed by burial in the Old Silverbrook Cemetery.
