BARRE TOWN - Mary Ann Beck, 80, of Wildersburg Common, died Thursday evening, April 25, 2013, at her home. Her family was at her bedside. Born in Barre City on March 20, 1933, she was the daughter of Charlie and Kathie (Brown) Beck. She attended St. Monica Graded School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1951. In 1953, she graduated from Vermont Junior College in Montpelier with an Associate degree in business. Mary Ann had worked in the family granite business, the Beck and Beck Granite Co., and later for the National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier. In 1960, she moved to Denver, Colo., and began a long career in the oil production industry, retiring in 1988 from the Amoco Co. as an administrative assistant. She returned to Barre in 2012 to make her home with her sister, Elise Beck Riddel. Golf and playing bridge were her chief hobbies, traveling to many bridge tournaments and earning a Silver Life Master in Bridge award. Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Elise Riddel, and sister-in-law Carmen Beck, both of Barre Town, and nieces Mary Elise Riddel, Nancy Moore and her husband, Neil, Joanne Adams and her husband, William, Jennifer Bernasconi and her husband, Jay, and Sonja Hawkins and her husband, Craig; as well as grandnieces Brooke and Paige Moore and grandnephews Logan Beck and Christopher Adams; and several cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Leonard and Paul Beck. She will always be remembered for being generous with her time and resources and her family and friends will miss her infectious laugh and sense of humor. Her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge of the arrangements.
