Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Crestwood Cemetery for Mary Alva Smith Clay, 90, Gadsden, who died Oct. 1, 2009. Anthony Copeland will officiate. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Mrs. Clay was born and raised in Arab, attended Arab High School, moved to Gadsden, married Perry R. Clay and raised three children. She departed this life Oct. 1 and is now living with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved family, loved to cook big meals and always ready to help others. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and was a past Noble Grand of Rebecca's Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry R. Clay; three sisters; and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Sue (Donald) Copeland, David (Vickie) Clay and Dr. Ricky (Emily) Clay; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frances Clay and Pat Clay; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's. Pallbearers will be family members. The family wishes to express its thanks to everyone for the prayers and visits, and to the MICU of Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Dr. Jaiswal. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service at Crestwood Funeral Home.
