Owens, Mary Alice, 96, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, died Sunday, Nov. 23. Born in Constable, NY to Peter and Elizabeth Murtagh. She worked in Wayne County as a social worker for twenty-five years, moving to Ft. Lauderdale in 1953 where she was Founding Directress of Catholic Social Services of Broward County and member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. Preceded in death by husband William F. Owens. Survived by nephew Michael (Janet) McGivney of Brighton, MI; niece Kathleen (Norbert) Kanzler of Chatcaugay, NY; and grand nieces and nephews Michael, Patrick, Matthew, Daniel, Patricia, John and Sheila. Friends may call on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM with a wake to be held at 7:30 PM, at the funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Ft. Lauderdale, with interment to follow at Lauderdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jerome's Parish Fund.
