Mary Alice Davis Mary Alice Davis, 62, died Jan. 20, 2008 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Mary Alice Davis was born Dec. 28, 1945, in Attapulgus, Ga., to Emma and the late N.T. Smith. Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hamilton. Mary graduated from Attapulgus Mt. Moriah High School in 1963 at the tender age of 17, a year later she moved to Newburgh, N.Y., where she began a short career at St. Luke Hospital and was a dedicated nurse's aid. She later started working at IBM Corporation and continued her employment tor more than 20 years.In 1966 she met her future husband Mr. Charlie Davis Jr. and later wed on June 28, 1970, where they had two beautiful children. In 1987 she and her family moved to Tallahassee. Fla., where they finalized their residence. During her days she was known as a beautiful person who never closed her door and always had a genuine smile.Mary loved to crochet, knit, make pottery and bowl, but most of all she was a diligent servant to both her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Davis of Tallahassec, Fla.; a son, Michael Charles (Tiffany) Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Merchelle Rana Davis of Tallahassee, Fla.; two stepsons, Nigel and Sheldon Davis of Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Sherry Woods of Char1otte; four beloved grandchildren, D'Marcus McDonald, Malan McDonald, Kameron Davis and Chandler Davis; six siblings, Cora Grisby of Baltimore, Md., Ellis Smith Sr. of Bainbridge, Ga., George (Dorothy) Smith of Attapulgus, Ga., Janie (Steven) Sandridge of Los Angeles, Calif., John (Dorothy) Smith of Harker Heights, Texas, Willie (Mary) Smith of Bainbridge; and a host of loving stepgrands.stepgreat-grands, aunts, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Union Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Ga., with burial at Lobe Cemetery. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Guyton Funeral Home (229-246-2468) in Bainbridge, Ga., is handling arrangements.
