MARY A. ANDERSON (NEE ROY) KOUTS, IN Mary A. Anderson, 79 of Kouts, passed away August 13, 2013 at the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice in Valparaiso. Mary was a long-time resident of Kouts, having previously lived in Park Forest Illinois. Mary was born July 11, 1934 in Chicago. She lived most of her early years in Chicago Heights. She was a graduate of Bloom High School and attended Missouri Valley College. She obtained her RN degree from Prairie State College. Mary worked for 23 years as a nursing supervisor at Oak Forest Hospital in Oak Forest, IL. Mary married John W. Anderson in 1954 and remarried John in 1975. Mary is survived by John and by her children: Corinne (David) Hill, John Robert (Eartha) (Chong Cha) Anderson, and Lucas David (Laura) Anderson. Mary was loving grandmother to Jacob, Jeney, Lucas, Tyler, Suzanne, Stephen, Loren, Scott, Tia and Layla, and great grandmother to Gavin. Also surviving are Mary's siblings: James (Shirley) Roy, Rose (late Roger) Lange, Rob (late Elaine) Roy and Anne Beth (Bill) Rehberg. Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Archie and Rose Roy. God's spirit in Mary led her to do volunteer work for the homeless, serve as a helper for God's Children's House in Gary and assist in the bread mission for the needy, sick and poor. Mary was a long-time active church member, first at Grace United Protestant Church in Park Forest, later at Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts and finally at Valparaiso Mennonite Church. Mary liked gardening and reading. She was a member of the Kouts Library Book Review Club, which she greatly enjoyed. She was an avid quilter, creating many award winning and personally treasured quilts. Mary possessed the confidence to approach all, including perfect strangers, who were in need and provide them with words of comfort or encouragement. Her kind spirit will be greatly missed. Mary's body was donated to the Indiana University Medical School in Indianapolis.
