Marvin Lee Carter, age 76, of Alpharetta went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 16, 2011. He was born in Atlanta to the late Claude and Fannie Carter. Marvin was a member and deacon of Union Hill Baptist Church. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend and devoted servant. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1963. He retired from General Electric as an electrical engineer after 35 years. He immediately moved back to Alpharetta and began full-time employment at Jenkins Relay in Cumming until his calling to be with the Lord. Marvin served as a member of the Masonic Lodge for 40 years, was past Master of the Masonic Lodge, F&AM #235, and past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 31. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Fannie Carter; and brothers, Raymond and Richard Carter. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Carter; daughters, Tammy Levengood (Mike), Tanya Sollenberger (Dan), both of Cumming; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Kayla, Lori and Robin; two sisters, Claudette Nicholson, Mary Brooks; and brother Millard Carter. Funeral services for Marvin L. Carter will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church in Alpharetta. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests at a visitation Friday, March 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Northside Chapel in Roswell. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution to Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 4250 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta, GA 30005. Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell is in charge of arrangements.
