Martha "Beatrice" Tiller Carter MADISON, GA-- Martha "Beatrice" Tiller Carter, 101 of Madison, died on Sunday, May 22, 2011. She was born on June 25, 1909, in Madison County to Edd Lee Tiller and Lillie Mae Vaughan Tiller. She was a 1928 graduate of Ila High School and a 1930 graduate of Georgia State Teachers College. She taught at the Harrison School from 1930-1936. She was married to the late George Edward Mell Carter on June 16, 1935. The Carters moved to Madison in 1948. Mrs. Carter served as a substitute teacher at Morgan County Middle School and worked at Gallant-Belk Co. She was a member of Madison Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter is survived by a son, Kenneth Carter (Ann) of Spartanburg, SC. She also leaves grandsons: Steve Carter (Pauline) and Jim Carter (Christa); great-grandchildren, Will Carter (Dory Ann) and Louis Carter (Sam), as well as a brother-in-law, S.A. Long. Several nieces and nephews survive as well. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, G.M. Carter; and her sisters, Eva Fitzpatrick Lamb, Lucy Lester, Mary Hooper Molis, and Sarah long. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 3:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Madison City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church (Spartanburg, SC) or to Madison Baptist Church (Madison, GA). A.E.
