Martha Sue (Parham) Smith We lost our beautiful Mother, Mammy and Doll on February 12, 2007, with the passing of Martha Sue (Parham) Smith, born on March 8, 1935, to Zula Annabelle and L.E. Parham in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Martha married James Lee Smith on January 27, 1951, in a terrible ice storm. They endured many more storms, but shared 56 years of laughs, songs, animals, cars, and four children: Jamea Sue Crum; Dana Lee Smith; Lori Elizabeth Feyh; and Lesley Lynn Hook. She was Mammy to five grandchildren, Martha Elizabeth Crum; Emily Susannah Budd; David Jameson Crum; Henry August Feyh; and Sarah Annabelle Hook. She hoped to see the upcoming birth of her sixth grandchild, Aidan Daniel Hook, and she loved her three great-grandchildren: Asher, Israel and Lily Budd. All of her children will forever miss their Mammy, and her holding, rocking, singing, shopping, and explaining away all misbehavior. Martha started her own business, Southwest Medical Electrolysis, in 1980, and she worked until the very last day she could. Her many clients, whom she called her "ladies", became her friends, and she missed them. Preceding her in death were her mother, father, and brother, Jimmie Earl Parham; her mother and father-in-law, Maxine and Shelby Smith; her brother-in-law Bill Smith; and her sister-in-law Carol Thompson. She leaves behind her family and many friends. All who loved Martha know she deserved a rest, but she didn't want to take it. She wanted to work another day, go to lunch, laugh on the phone, and watch her small grandchildren grow up and be born. We will take comfort in one of her favorite quotes: Even the birds sing after a storm. She was our beautiful songbird. Visitation with family will be held Friday, February 16, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte. Funeral services are 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Springfield, 525 South Avenue. Online condolences may be made at www.klingner-cope.com.
