Martha Lee Polly Carter was born in the Ebenezer Community of Henderson County on October 29 1925 to Beulah and Albert White. She had a sister Arnell Overman deceased and two brothers Haywood White deceased and J.D. White who lives at Reagan. She graduated from Scotts Hill High School attended West Tennessee Business College then married Travis Carter on December 24 1944. He died in 1984. They made their home for most of their married life near Sardis where they raised four children Judy Keats Nick and David. Judy lives in Decaturville and is married to Sammy Fisher and they have three sons Scott Stan and John. Keats died in 1983. Nick lives near the family home and has four grown children Melanie Millinder Jennifer Bridges Candace Palmer and Brett Carter. David Carter is married to Sheila and lives in Milledgeville. Their children are Christy Tobey and Wesley Carter. Polly worked at HIS Sportswear in Saltillo for many years. She was a clerk at Sardis Post Office then for the last two years worked part time at the Sardis Senior Citizens Center. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family and friends and enjoyed her nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She loved her church Sardis United Methodist Church where she was an active member. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 17 2003 in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Scotts Hill. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery near Scotts Hill. Pallbearers to serve are Larry Overman Ronald White Glen Ivey Scotty Fisher Wes Carter and Brett Carter. The family will receive friends today from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
