Obituary of Martha-Jean Jones


Martha Jean Jones, 61, of Simpsonville, was born in Franklin, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Eugene James and Caroline Elizabeth Love. On Monday, April 28, 2003, an Angel brought eternal rest following complications from a lung transplant. Martha earned a scholarship from Livingston College in Salisbury, N.C., and completed her secondary program by attending A&T University, DC Teachers College and the University of the District of Columbia. She was elected to Who's Who in American Colleges and was Dean of Pledges of Alpha Kappa Sorority at A&T University. She was also a Licensed Realtor. Pre-retirement: Martha was a contract specialist for the Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) in Washington. She is survived by her husband, Collie Earl Jones, of the home; two sons, Michael D. Jones, and wife, Jackie, of Hyattsville, Md., and Adrian D. Jones, and wife, Faye Mayo, of Forestville, Md.; one brother, Mark A. Love, and wife, Avis, of High Point, N.C.; and three sisters, Ruth P. Dumas, of High Point, H. Gail Searcy, and husband, Larry, of Charlotte, and Janice L. Chaparas, and husband, Thomas, of Fairfield, Calif. Martha was predeceased by a brother and sister, Philip and Priscilla Love. Survivors: An aunt, Catherine Nance, of Chicago; one grandchild, Alxis Queen Jones; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 906 Meredith St., High Point, NC 27260, conducted by the Rev. Mark A. Love. Burial will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the church; and other times at 2406 E. Lexington Ave. Arrangements entrusted to and services conducted by Gilmore Funeral Service, High Point, NC 27262-3537.
