Martha Elizabeth Meyer Martha Elizabeth Roberts Meyer, 94, of Franklin, Ind., died Thursday, March 23, 2006. A private memorial service will be in Fayette, Mo., during which her ashes will be interred next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, acts of kindness are encouraged as a tribute to Mrs. Meyer. Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin (317-736-5528) is handling arrangements.Mrs. Meyer was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Soddy, Tenn. and graduated from Humefogg High School in Nashville, Tenn., in 1929. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1933 and Master of Science in 1934 from Vanderbilt University. During her teaching career, Mrs. Meyer taught at Isaac Litton High School and Cavert Junior High School in Nashville; Sweet Briar College and St. Anne's School for Girls in Virginia; University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.; and Stockton Junior College in Stockton, Calif.On April 6, 1935, Martha Roberts married Samuel L. Meyer, a native of Fayette. Mrs. Meyer was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board and the American Association of University Women. She has been active in the PEO Sisterhood since her initiation in 1959, while living in Stockton. Mrs. Meyer is survived by two sons, Samuel L. Meyer III of Pleasanton, Calif., and James Barton Meyer of Franklin; four grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth of Las Vegas, Samuel D. of Richmond, Ky., Nicholas D. of Homer, Alaska, and Nathaniel D. of Franklin; a niece, Peggy M. Dowling; and two daughters-in-law, Phyllis D. Meyer and Diana Curtain Meyer.She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Meyers, a retired President of Northern Ohio University in Ada, Ohio.
