Marjorie-R. Lee, born in 1922, spouse of Courtney Lee, daughter of Frank and Rose, mother of Karen Dunkleberg and Robert, died on January 18, 2010. Please consult the obituary here:
Lee, Marjorie R. Rochester: Our ever faithful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was lost to us January 18, 2010. Marjorie Riel Lee lived a quiet, humble life marked by devotion to others; her passing has left an irrevocable void in the lives she authored and influenced. She was born in Putnam, CT on December 9, 1922 to Frank Riel and Rose Kelly. She lost her mother in 1929 and Marjorie and her brother were put in a boarding school in Creche D'Youville, Montreal. When her father discovered she had forgotten English, he moved her to St. Mary's in Champlain, NY. She learned English again and joined the orphans in urging potential adoptive parents to "take me, take me." Marjorie was an excellent student who graduated with honors from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. Refused the opportunity for college, she came to Rochester with her sister Ruth; her life after that was one of uxorial and maternal care. Marjorie's first and only pet, Noelle the Maltipoo, was a joy to her these past few years; she also relished her travels in Europe, the garden of the home she established half-a-century ago, dinners with the Savellas, and following her grandsons' educational odysseys. Never again will Gram have to ask to be taken for she is now truly home. Marjorie is predeceased by her first husband, W. Richard Thomas, her best friend and second husband, Courtney Lee, sister Ruth Sacheli, brother Francis Riel, and nephew Alfred Sacheli. She leaves bereft her daughter and tender caregiver these last few years, Mary Thomas, her son Robert Thomas (Corvallis, OR), her (grand)daughter Karen Dunkleberg Savella (Fernando), her stepdaughter Linda Lee, grandchildren Tony Colucci, Jenny, Haley, and Tammi Lee. She also leaves great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Aaron, and David Savella, and Kyra and Jacob Ziegler. We "love thee with the breath / Smiles, tears of all [our lives!]--and, if God choose / [We] shall but love thee better after death" (E. B. Browning). Please join us at Immanuel Baptist Church at 815 Park Avenue on Saturday, January 23 at 2-2:30 for a viewing and at 3:00 for a celebration of Marjorie's life with a reception to follow. For those wishing, please consider a memorial donation to Camp Good Days, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Road, Mendon, NY 14506 or any Haitian relief charity you choose.
