Obituary of Marjorie Mitchell


Marjorie (Jones) Mitchell Marjorie (Jones) Mitchell passed away March 8, 2007, in Cox South Hospita. Those who knew and loved her will most miss her quick wit and shy smile, always accompanied by a sparkle in her eyes. Marj was born January 12, 1921, in Lebanon, Mo., to John and Doris (Goodman) Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Mitchell; her parents; sister Beth McKnight and brother John Jones. Education was most important to Marj as she attended Lebanon High School, Central Methodist College and Missouri State Teachers College. She spend many years in Bolivar with her family and then moved to California, where she was an assistant for the medical staff office at Northridge Hospital. After retiring in 1991, Marj moved back to Southern Missouri. Marj was a long-time member of the Lebanon Eastern Star and the Alpha Phi Alumni Association. Her most proud accomplishment was her family and she delighted in telling stories of their successes, and in some cases, mischief. She is survived by three daughters and their families, Kay and Dennis King; Barbara and Joe McCarty; and Sandra Mitchell. Also surviving are her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all who lovingly knew her as Granny; Jeff and Cathy King, Pam and Chris Crone, Kiersten McCarty and her fiancé, Troy Schroeder, Tom McCarty and his fiancee, Beth Heywood, and John Mitchell; and great-grandchildren, Brittany and Valerie King, and Kate and Stephanie Crone. Marj is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann Jones, and her nieces and nephews. The family gives special thanks to Jan Frana, who became a most valued extension of the family in her care and friendship for Marj. The family would also like to extend their gratitude for the excellent medical care to Dr. Larry Chase, Heather, Dee, and the wonderful staff at the 9th floor of Cox South. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 12, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with interment at a later date.
