SMITH, Marjorie Jean - Peacefully on March 12th, 2008, at the Riverside Retirement Residence, London, Marjorie Jean Smith, formerly of Merlin, Ontario, passed away in her 95th year. Much loved sister of Grace Smith and Marion (Glenn) Ludwig all of London. Predeceased by brothers Stanley, Harold, Carlyle, and by sisters Iva Otis, Edna McColl and Annie Doyle. Fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and close friends. Jean was born in Romney Township, Kent County, daughter of Rudolph and Alberta Smith, attended local elementary schools and Blenheim High School before entering London Normal School in 1931. Having lived most of her life in Port Alma, Jean taught in public schools in Staples, Merlin, South Buxton, became principal of Merlin Public School and later taught speech therapy for Kent County School Board. Jean enjoyed travel, music and dancing and played both piano and organ. She was a former member of the Talbot Street United Church Choir and after she retired she moved to London where she became a member of the choir at Village Green Presbyterian Church and later a member of Metropolitan United Church New Horizons Club. Visitation will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the funeral service which will be conducted at Hammond Funeral Home, 17 Little Street, Wheatley, Ontario on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. Interment, Shanks Cemetery, Talbot Street Community.
