Obituary of Marjorie-Harvey Taylor

MORELL, MARJORIE HARVEY TAYLOR Marjorie Harvey Taylor, wife of the late Frank Hains Morell, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on January 8, 2004, after a period of failing health. The daughter of Alton DesBrisay Taylor and his wife, Roberta Barnes Wisely was born in Fredericton on December 2, 1918, and was a life-long resident of Minto. Mrs. Morell was a member of the first (1935) graduating class of Minto - Newcastle Consolidated School and later attended Mount Allison University, Saint John Business College, NB Teachers College and the University of New Brunswick. Prior to her marriage, she worked as her father's secretary. In 1958, after her children were grown, Marjorie returned to school and, in 1959, began a new career teaching at schools in Minto and Plaster Rock for several years. Marjorie was active in community, educational and provincial affairs. A lifelong supporter of the Progressive Conservative Party and member of many community groups, in 1995 she received the United Nations award for her community service. She was a wife, mother, teacher and author - publishing her history of the Minto coal industry in 1980 - and, most important, grandmother extraordinaire. Marjorie Morell is survived by four daughters, Roberta Kilfillen (Garnet), Janet Drost (Calvin), Ruth Drost-Barton (Eldon) and Mary Scribner (Alvin); two sons, Richard Morell (Frances) and Alton Morell; six granddaughters and six grandsons; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Constance Findlay of Winnipeg; one sister-in-law, Vesta (Mrs. James) Morell of Fredericton; one cousin, John Pitblado, Liverpool, NS; many nephews and nieces. As well as her husband and parents Mrs. Morell was predeceased by her youngest son, Hugh and her eldest grandchild, Jane Drost-Cichello; two sisters, Catherine Taylor and Shirley Sutherland and her brother, William Taylor. Arrangements (entrusted to Minto Funeral Home - 327-3490) are incomplete at this time. If you so wish, in remembrance of Marjorie, the family suggests donations to the Minto Public Library or St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church Building Fund.
