->SKOWHEGAN -- It is with profound sadness that the Davis family announces the passing of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marjorie Davis, into God's hands, on Sept. 23, 2008. Marjorie (aka Mom) had one soulmate in her life: her husband, John A. Davis Sr. What they mutually shared was remarkable -- a relationship unrivaled that was a role model for all their children. In a card recently given to her husband, she wrote, "he was the guy that all girls search for in their lives" and that "he was the sunshine in her life." That sunshine prevailed for more than 63 years of marriage.Marjorie, born Nov. 18, 1923, in Watertown, N.Y., was an only child to John M. Butts and Anna L. Butts. She lost her father in August 1955 and her mother in April, 1956.Together with her husband, they had eight children. As an insight to her wonderful sense of humor, prominently placed in the dining room is a plaque stating "who are all these kids and why do they keep calling me mom?"Her family: John "Jack" Davis Jr. and his wife, Susan, and late wife Mary: their children, John Cormier and his wife, Renee, Kimberly Sweet and her husband, Danny, Alexandria Davis and her significant other, Keith Deschambault and Jason Davis and significant other Heather Hanson and grandchildren Zachary and Seth Sweet and Cortlynn and Ben Davis; Terry Lee Hornstein and the late Louis Hornstein: their children, Russell Hornstein and his wife, Fiona, Cherie O'Connor and her husband, David, and Casey Spilatro and grandchildren Paige, Sydney and Jacob O'Connor and Kelsie Spilatro; Daniel R. Davis and his wife, Maureen: their children Michaele Layng and her husband Rob, Danielle Davis and Zeb Davis and his wife Gina and grandchildren Annalise and Harper Layng, and Lennox Davis; Deborah Arsenault and her husband, Keith; Clarence Mark Davis and his daughters April Davis and Willow Russell and grandchildren Odessa; David M. Davis and his wife, Sheryl: their children, Samantha Carey and her husband, Eric, and Sarah Lea Davis and grandchildren Ryleigh Carey; Donald P. Davis and his wife, Jane: their daughter Jade Clukey; and Margie Davis Lewis and her husband, Kevin: their daughter Bailey Lewis.Marjorie graduated from Watertown High School in 1941 and went on to become a registered nurse. She studied at the House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown and Columbia Presbyterian in New York City, graduating in 1943. It was in this very hospital setting where she met her husband-to-be, John, while he was a patient and happened to be in the same room as her father. Subsequently, they were married in Watertown on April 1, 1945.Together they shared a zest of life which began on a wedding trip that carried them from coast to coast while John was on "Survivors" leave from the Navy during World War II. Some of the joys that Marjorie loved were the cottage that she and John built in the Thousand Islands of New York and the camp on Lake Wesserunsett. They shared an interest in travel and enjoyed their trips to New York City where they would "take in" a Broadway show; but they equally enjoyed a night out at the local Lakewood Theater. She loved the water, sand and sun and over the last 25 years they made annual trips to Barbados during the Maine winter months. She had a love of music and a love of reading and especially loved taking on John in a game of SkipBo, Scrabble, or gin rummy and spent many hours doing so. However, her greatest passion in life was for her husband John and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all else, she nurtured, loved and looked forward to visits and conversations from her family. We are going to miss her.A private memorial service will be held at the Skowhegan Federated Church, officiated by the Rev. Mark Tanner. Arrangements are with the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, ME 04976.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the HealthReach Homecare & Hospice, Skowhegan, P.O.
