Marion Lee, born in 1913, spouse of Edward-Hoy Lee, mother of Marie and Barbara, died on August 9, 2013 at 100 years old.
LEE, Marion Sue Won May 9, 1913 - August 9, 2013Marion Lee (Nee Marion Mah) was born in Ladysmith 100 years ago. To have lived 100 years is a signal achievement by any measure. She married Edward Hoy Lee of Nanaimo in 1936. This union was to endure for 57 years. During those years Ed and Marion together operated first a general store, then a fish market in the commercial centre of Nanaimo. From there they were to withstand the difficulties of the great depression and the uncertainties of World War II. They raised two daughters, Marie (husband Dr. Douglas Wong of Ottawa) and Barbara (husband Gordon Mar of Sydney Australia) who now survive her. Marion leaves behind two grandchildren, Darryl and Leanne Wong and two great- grandchildren, Jade and Edward Warren, all of Ottawa. She is survived by her brother Garnet Mah of Duncan. The family sincerely thank Dr. Leung and the devoted staff at the Royal Arch Masonic Home, Vancouver, for the sympathetic care enjoyed by Marion throughout her stay there of six years. The genuine concern for her welfare as shown by the staff on the third floor was truly appreciated and is to be commended. A Memorial Service will be held in The Chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nanaimo Museum, 100 Museum Way, Nanaimo, B.C. V9R 5J8.
